Asian Art

Midterm Exam

In class, Monday, April 1.

I will discuss this in the review session, but the following book chapter will help you get a handle on what is expected in an art history exam:

  • Christina Maranci, A Survival Guide for Art History Students (Pearson Prentice Hall, 2005), Chapter 4, "The Art History Exam," pp. 71–96. Download: Maranci_4.pdf.

The exam will be 45 minutes long. It will start promptly, five minutes after class begins. There will be 15 one-minute IDs and 3 ten-minute comparisons. For the midterm, there will be no essay question.

The exam will cover everything up to and including the material from week 5.

Monuments for the midterm will be selected from the list of 32 below. A PDF is available here with a single image for each number on the list: ART 216 MIDTERM IMAGES.pdf [15 MB]

I strongly suggest you find each of these both in the readings (see the list for locations) and in the slides from the lectures. In most cases, the slides from the lecture expand greatly upon the visual information found in the single image that will be used for the exam. In addition, PDFs are provided here for material that is in either the 5th but not 4th, or 4th but not 5th, editions of the textbook.
